DeCaLiBro Combo (Class 2)
Description
This is the second 14er I ever climbed, back in September 2012 with a few friends. This peak is officially unranked (i.e., does not count toward the 53 Colorado 14ers) since it only rises 138' above the saddle connecting it to its parent peak, Mt. Lincoln. To be an official 14er, it must rise at least 300' above such a saddle. Either way, it makes up a quartet of 14ers, also including Mt. Democrat and Mt. Bross, located near the Continental Divide southwest of Breckenridge. They are often climbed together and are sometimes collectively referred to as the DeCaLiBro (DemocratCameronLincolnBross). Mt. Cameron can sometimes be seen from parts of South Park and can be seen when driving along Colorado Rt. 9 between Fairplay and Breckenridge.
We did the entire DeCaLiBro that day in 2012, beginning at the Kite Lake trailhead (12,000'). After first taking the Mt. Democrat East Slopes route to the Mt. Democrat summit, the standard DeCaLiBro route takes you back down to the Democrat-Cameron saddle at 13,350' and up the Mt. Cameron west ridge to the summit. From there you continue on to the summits of Lincoln and Bross as well before descending down Bross' southwest ridge back to the trailhead.
